A conversation about Football world cup

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Ramona: Did you guys catch the replay of the 2022 World Cup final between France and Argentina? Those final minutes were incredible (extremely good or impressive)!

Ben: Every minute of it, Ramona! Messi’s last-minute goal? Pure genius. Argentina really deserved (earned or were worthy of) that win.

Jiju: Absolutely! Seeing Messi finally lift the World Cup trophy was emotional. But France put up one heck of a fight. Mbappé was unstoppable (impossible to prevent or defeat), wasn’t he?

Ramona: France is lucky to have him. But with so many great players around the world, who do you think ranks alongside Mbappé right now?

Jiju: Lewandowski for Poland is still a goal machine. He might be even more motivated now that Messi’s not overshadowing him anymore!

Ben: (Chuckles) Don’t underestimate Messi, Jiju. Even at his age, he’s pulling off some incredible (extremely good or impressive) plays for Argentina. He’s like a magician defying Father Time.

Ramona: True, but we can’t forget about the young stars rising through the ranks. Pedri in Spain, for example. His vision and control in midfield are like nothing I’ve ever seen.

Jiju: Pedri’s a joy to watch. But his teammate Gavi shouldn’t be overlooked. That kid brings a fire and passion to the game that’s infectious (spreading rapidly to others).

Ben: Spain’s midfield is looking scary good. Speaking of young talents, England has Bellingham. He’s only 19 and already a force to be reckoned (taken into account) with.

Ramona: England definitely has potential, but they need a more consistent finisher. Kane’s world-class (among the best in the world), but sometimes goes quiet in crucial matches.

Jiju: Maybe they should give someone new a chance. Foden’s been impressive internationally. His creativity (the use of imagination or original ideas) is undeniable.

Ben: Foden with Kane could be a nightmare for defenses. Speaking of creative (relating to or involving the use of the imagination or original ideas to create something) geniuses, De Bruyne for Belgium is still the king of the assist. He can find a teammate with a laser pass from anywhere.

Ramona: De Bruyne’s a legend, but Belgium seems to be past their prime. Maybe Hazard can make a comeback, but his injuries are a concern.

Jiju: Hazard’s a gamble, for sure. But on his day, he’s unplayable (so good that the opponent cannot stop them). Speaking of ageless wonders, Lewandowski is still putting goals away for Poland at 36!

Ben: He’s like a fine wine, getting better with age. Especially with Zielinski feeding him those perfect balls, Poland is a team to watch.

Ramona: Absolutely. They have a good balance of experience and young talent. South America is looking dangerous too! Argentina with Messi playing with a point to prove, and Lautaro Martinez ready to explode (suddenly and dramatically enter the scene) on the world stage.

Jiju: Argentina is terrifying (extremely formidable or alarming)! They’ve got that winning mentality back, and Messi seems determined to add another World Cup before he retires.

Ben: And Brazil! Their talent pool is ridiculous (absurdly good; extremely impressive). Vinicius Jr. is finally living up to the hype, and Neymar seems to have rediscovered his joy for the game.

Ramona: Brazil is always a threat. But for me, the team with the most well-rounded (having a variety of qualities or abilities) squad (a group of players forming a team) is still France. Varane’s a rock at the back, Pogba orchestrates everything in midfield, and Mbappé is a nightmare up front.

Jiju: France is a juggernaut (a huge, powerful, and overwhelming force), no doubt. But football is unpredictable. Who knows, maybe this year’s World Cup will throw up a surprise winner!
